Resorbable Materials | Mimetix Technology
Resorbable electrospun scaffolds for tissue-facing medical devices
The Mimetix® platform provides resorbable electrospun materials, designed to provide temporary scaffold structures during tissue repair. It helps medical device teams develop membranes, scaffolds and tissue-facing materials where fibre architecture, degradation profile, handling, post-processing and manufacturability all matter.
For wound healing, orthopaedic soft tissue and other tissue-facing applications, the Mimetix® platform provides a route to resorbable materials designed with development, validation, scale-up and manufacturing in mind.
What Mimetix® is
Resorbable electrospun materials that provide temporary structure during healing
The Mimetix® platform uses electrospinning to create ultra-fine fibre scaffolds from resorbable polymer systems. These materials are designed to provide temporary support during tissue repair before gradually degrading over time, allowing the scaffold to perform its role during the repair process without remaining permanently in place.
By controlling fibre architecture, material selection, scaffold thickness and post-processing, Mimetix® materials can be configured for different application needs. This includes thin, delicate scaffold structures as well as thicker, more open formats such as Mimetix® Air for wound-facing applications.
For device teams, the Mimetix® platform provides a way to design resorbable electrospun materials around handling, degradation, mechanical performance, tissue-facing behaviour and scale-up requirements.

The resorbable scaffold creates a temporary support system, guiding the body’s own cells to form new and functional tissue. Once implanted, it provides the strength needed to handle physical loads while supporting healthy tissue growth. Over time, the scaffold naturally dissolves, leaving behind a fully biological structure capable of repairing, remodelling, and growing with the body. Upon implantation, the scaffold supports a natural healing process.
It begins with immune cell infiltration and the formation of a preliminary matrix. This is followed by proliferation of immune and tissue-producing cells which drive extracellular matrix (ECM) deposition. Over time, as the scaffold dissolves, tissue function is restored through ECM remodelling and the resolution of inflammation, leaving behind a fully biological, functional, and adaptable structure.
Why Mimetix® Matters
Designed for applications where temporary structure and controlled degradation matter
Many tissue-facing medical devices need materials that provide temporary support during repair, then gradually resorb once their role has been fulfilled. In these applications, performance is not defined by one property alone, but by how scaffold structure, degradation time, porosity, mechanical behaviour and tissue interaction work together.
The Mimetix® platform supports this by enabling resorbable electrospun scaffolds to be engineered around the application, rather than using a generic degradable material format. This is especially relevant where teams need temporary scaffold materials designed for handling, repair support, development, validation and scale-up.
What Mimetix® Enables
Resorbable scaffold performance designed around the application
The Mimetix® platform gives device teams a way to design resorbable electrospun scaffolds around the tissue environment, device requirements and development pathway.
Tailored degradation profile
Adjust material selection, fibre structure and scaffold design so degradation behaviour can be aligned with the needs of the target tissue and application.
Tunable, post-processed scaffolds
Engineer fibre orientation, porosity, thickness and structure, then configure Mimetix® materials into different post-electrospinning formats, including thicker, more open structures such as Mimetix® Air for wound-facing applications.
Handling and mechanical performance
Design scaffold formats with the strength, flexibility or thickness required for handling, placement and device integration.
Combination with other technology platforms
Combine the Mimetix® platform with our other technologies where the application requires layered, hybrid or multi-functional material structures.
Temporary scaffold support
Create electrospun structures that provide temporary support during repair before gradually degrading over time.
